We are looking for a driven person to join the charity’s Advocate Team to support members from the Gypsy and Traveller community across West Yorkshire.

Position: Criminal Justice and Hate Crime Advocate 

Location: West Yorkshire/hybrid

Hours: Part-time, 21 hours per week

Salary: £24,829 per annum pro rata

Contract: Maternity cover 12 months

The Role

You will work across a project with a focus on two areas of support: hate crime and criminal justice. This role will involve working with and supporting individuals and families from Gypsy and Traveller communities who are affected by the criminal justice system and anyone who has previously experienced, or are currently experiencing any form of hate crime.

You will have the ability to:

• Support individuals and engage them with relevant services.

• Build trusting and effective relationships with our members.

• Remain balanced and nonjudgmental while listening to individuals.

• Encourage and inspire people to recognise and build on their own strengths

• Network and form good working connections with external services and partners across West Yorkshire.

• Use a computer, including proficiency in the use of word processing and data entry tools.

About the Organisation

You will be joining a vibrant and brave grassroots organisation led by Gypsy and Traveller people in West Yorkshire. This is an established and award-winning civil society organisation with a national profile.  Recognised as being innovative, brave and creative.  The overall aim of the charity is to improve the quality of life for Gypsies and Travellers through addressing inequalities in homes, health, education, and employment, financial and social inclusion. There are a number of community-facing and strategic projects to achieve aims including advocacy, community development and youth work.
