We are recruiting an enthusiastic, creative and committed Deputy Managers to lead and motivate teams in 2 services in Waltham Forest.

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Hours: Full-time, permanent (38 hours per week)

Salary: £31,052 per annum

Location: Waltham Forest

Contract: Permanent

About the role:

As the Deputy Manager you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of a high quality support service for adults with a range of needs, through making sure the service adheres to all the relevant legislative and performance standards, contract compliance.

You will be required to be able to work with a females and males, be fully flexible, work some evenings, weekends and bank holidays. You may also be asked to do an occasional sleep-in and will provide regular out of hours on-call support for which additional payment will be made. You may be required to complete some frontline support shifts as part of the role.

The main responsibilities of the Deputy Manager will include:

  • You will work within the values and spirit of the organisation to engage, enable and empower customers to achieve their goals and ambitions where they are able within a person centred approach.
  • You will develop and motivate support workers to be positive and enthusiastic about their work and to deliver high quality and personalised support.
  • You will work with the service manager to develop systems to enable support hours to be used creatively and flexibly to meet the needs of the people we support.
  • You will lead your team to develop support plans and risk assessments that reflect people’s needs, preferences and aspirations; creating a culture where plans are actively implemented and reviewed so that people are supported in the way that they want.
  • You will deliver a service that meets and aims to exceed the expectations of the people supported, their funders, the local authority and relevant standards of care.

About you

You will be an excellent communicator liaising effectively with key stakeholders. You will be able to easily interpret and apply policy into practice, including principles and practices of safeguarding adults at risk, budget management, health and safety, mental capacity act and upholding the rights of customers.

Essential skills and experience include:

  • Experience of managing a service for people with a learning disability/autism is preferable
  • You will be an excellent communicator liaising effectively with key stakeholders including the multi-disciplinary and health professionals, family carers and people we support.
  • You will have experience of staff management and the ability to lead, motivate and develop a large team, ensuring staff are appropriately trained. You will be visible in the service and strive to model best practice and inspire support workers.
  • You will be able to think creatively and be adaptable in approaches, with experience of implementing emergency management guidance to support staff.
  • Experience of carrying out needs assessments and creating support and risk management plans for people with behaviours of concern. And be committed to include the person, and their circle of support at all times.
  • A commitment to providing high quality, personalised active support
  • Leading by example, you will uphold the rights of people we support to be involved at all levels of decision making.
  • You will share values and passion to engage, enable and empower people with autism or a learning disability to lead the lives they want.
  • Knowledge of managing a budget is desirable

The organisation supports people who are known to present behaviours of concern by using the Positive Behaviour support model because PBS puts the person first. Existing knowledge/experience in following the PBS approach would be beneficial but not essential as extensive training is provided. A shared value of understanding and supporting a person’s behaviour and finding ways to work with them to improve this is essential.
