Job Title: Electrical Estimator
Reporting to: Managing Director
Location: Westbury, Wiltshire (Hybrid working available)
Hours: 8.00 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday, 1/2 hour for lunch
Role Objective:To secure projects for the business by taking ownership of all aspects of the estimating process (including managing areas of design work where necessary) on electrical services quotations assigned by the bid manager for completion.
Key Responsibilities:- Client Engagement:
- Work closely with clients to understand and establish their requirements.
- Risk Assessment:
- Assess levels of risk on projects.
- Design Work:
- Perform preliminary design work (where necessary) to create basic schemes for accurate costings.
- Material and Equipment Research:
- Research materials and equipment to determine their suitability.
- Quotation Management:
- Compile and submit enquiries to suppliers and sub-contractors to obtain quotations.
- Material Take-off:
- Perform full material take-off of services drawings and specifications.
- Estimate Setup:
- Set up estimate structures within estimating software and input all labour, material, and subcontract elements.
- Site Surveys:
- Conduct site surveys (where appropriate).
- Negotiation:
- Negotiate with suppliers and sub-contractors to obtain the best prices.
- Tender Preparation:
- Finalise costs with Bid Manager and prepare tender submissions, including offer letters, qualifications, considerations, and supporting documentation.
- Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with tender return deadlines.
- Project Follow-up:
- Follow up on tenders and assist with securing projects.
- Project Handover:
- Hand over tender packages on secured projects to the contracts team, providing a full insight into the project scope, including allowances and potential material, labour, and plant savings.
- Relationship Management:
- Establish and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, architects, project managers, suppliers, and sub-contractors.
- Documentation:
- File documentation and information in the correct format and location.
- Team Support:
- Support the estimating and design team where necessary to achieve deadlines.
- Technology Awareness:
- Maintain awareness of the latest technologies and procedures.
- Other Duties:
- Perform all other estimating related duties as determined reasonable by the needs of the business.
Person Specification:- Experience:
- Previous experience in a similar role with a sound knowledge of installation methods and the ability to read drawings and specifications.
- Skills:
- Strong numerical, written communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a logical and methodical manner with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel, along with experience using specialist estimating software.
- Problem-solving and analysis skills.
