We are seeking an exceptional Head of Imaging to provide strategic and operational leadership for the delivery of high-quality imaging and diagnostic services across all of our sites. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of imaging services in a dynamic, patient-centred environment.
Role Responsibilities
As Head of Imaging, you will lead a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centred services while maintaining a focus on continuous improvement, clinical excellence, and innovation. You will play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of clinical governance, regulatory compliance, and radiation safety across all imaging modalities and locations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing strategies to enhance the quality, efficiency, and capacity of imaging and diagnostic services.
- Leading, managing, and coordinating the imaging teams, including radiologists, radiographers, and support staff.
- Managing workforce planning, recruitment, training, and professional development to support a highly skilled and motivated team.
- Overseeing resource allocation, service performance, and budgetary control to ensure the efficient use of facilities and equipment while meeting activity and financial targets.
- Ensuring compliance with local and national clinical guidelines, Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards, and professional best practices, including IRMER, IRR17, and COSHH regulations.
- Promoting a culture of safety, innovation, and patient-centered care.
- Developing, implementing, and monitoring protocols for safe and effective imaging practices, including radiation safety.
- Ensuring the availability of suitably qualified Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPS) across all sites, in compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17), and managing contracts with Radiation Protection Advisers (RPA).
- Driving a culture of continuous improvement, implementing innovative solutions and best practices to optimise patient care and operational performance.
- Overseeing equipment procurement, maintenance, and replacement planning to ensure the availability of high-quality, up-to-date imaging technology.
- Identifying opportunities for service growth, revenue generation, and efficiency savings.
- Preparing business cases and contributing to strategic planning for service development and investment in imaging technologies.
What We Are Looking For:
Professional Qualifications:
- Registration with the Health Professions Council (HCPC).
- Diploma of the College of Radiographers or BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic).
- Postgraduate qualification in Imaging, Leadership, or Management.
- Extensive post-registration clinical and management experience (minimum 5 years).
- Significant knowledge of clinical and corporate governance and its application.
- Evidence of continuous professional development and its application.
Experience:
- Significant experience in a senior leadership role within imaging or radiology services.
- Experience acting as Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) and/or Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS).
- Demonstrated track record of managing imaging services across multiple sites.
- Proven experience in implementing clinical governance, quality assurance, and safety frameworks.
Skills and Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR17) and Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R).
- Strong understanding of imaging technologies, workflows, and best practices.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and develop staff.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage budgets, projects, and performance.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with multidisciplinary teams, senior leadership, and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in IT systems, including imaging PACS/RIS systems and clinical governance software.
