We have an excellent opportunity for a proactive and passionate team player to join our team as our Lead Vet Groom. You will organise and take part in the daily activities of the Vet groom team, to ensure the work is carried out to a high standard and in a timely manner. As Lead Vet Groom you will be the spokesperson for the Vet groom team.

About you:

  • Experience of working in an equine yard,
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good equine handling skills.
  • Experience of handling equines with challenging behaviour.
  • Competent IT skills.
  • Able to perform physically demanding work.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to make good decisions under pressure.
  • UK full valid driving licence.

About the role:

Your principal duties and responsibilities will include –

  • Organise the grooms daily activities and weekend rota.
  • Ensure a high standard of husbandry is provided for hospital patients.
  • Ensure areas around stables are kept clean and tidy.
  • Oversee land management including dung removal.
  • Oversee the purchase of appropriate feed, bedding and equipment.
  • Ensure appropriate biosecurity is maintained following vet direction.
  • Help holding the donkeys during examinations and procedures.
  • Support the Head Nurse in maintaining a safe working environment by risk assessment and following Health and Safety regulations and by maintaining farm security.
  • Ensure all new arrivals into stallion unit undergo full isolation procedures and examinations.
  • Liaise with the behaviour team to develop training plans for new arrivals into stallion unit to improve their handling experience for routine procedures and castration if required.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duty as may be required.

Based at our Brookfield site, Nr Honiton, East Devon – this is a full-time, permanent contract starting as soon as possible, working 37.5 hours per week, 08.00-16.30, Monday-Friday, with evening and weekend work as part of our on-call duty rota.
