Horton Housing is a not-for-profit Housing Association that manages a wide range of different housing, training and support services across Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and North Yorkshire. We offer support to a variety of people, including those who are homeless or at risk, young people and refugees. We offer accommodation, skills and language support, and use a strength based approach to help the people we support achieve their goals in a manner which works for them.

We are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Operative to join our Property Services Team. This role is full time, 35 hours per week and involves travelling to our various sites. As such, a driving licence is essential. Van provided.

The role

In this role you will be responsible for maintenance and repair work including, but not limited to; plumbing, joinery, flooring, as well as moving, assembling and dismantling furniture; removing and disposing of items and rubbish and the general upkeep of properties and grounds owned or managed by Horton Housing.  The role relies on you being able to work under your own initiative and with minimal supervision.

What we are looking for

  • Previous employment in a property maintenance capacity or related field
  • Understanding of the potential risks to health, safety and welfare encountered in maintenance work
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries
  • Commitment to Equality & Diversity
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the demands of the post
  • Valid driving licence and a willingness to travel across the North Yorkshire region
  • Experience of carrying out a varied range of maintenance and repair work to a professional standard including plumbing (non-gas), electrical work and joinery.
  • Experience of boarding/replacing broken windows.
  • Experience of painting and decorating work.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and organise/prioritise workload.
  • Skills to carry out maintenance jobs to a professional standard.

What Horton offers in return?

In return, this role is offering a salary of £26,414, rising to £26,957 after 12 months service. The role also offers excellent benefits including 6 weeks annual leave, plus Bank Holidays.  Please see the recruitment pack for more details.
